Local AM Welcomes London 2012 Paralympic Pre-Games Training Camps

Local Swansea West AM Andrew Davies has welcomed then news that the Wales National Pool at Swansea University has been chosen as a Paralympic Pre-Game Training Camp.

Andrew Davies AM said

“I am delighted that the excellent facilities at the National Pool have been recognised by the London organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG).
The fact that the facilities were selected after a rigorous evaluation against selection criteria in close co-operation with sporting bodies including the British Paralympic Association (BPA) is a credit to the facilities and staff at the National Pool.”

Andrew Davies continued

“The National Pool will now be crucial for overseas teams and individual athletes to prepare and acclimatise prior to the London 2012 Games and will be a great opportunity to see the real benefits of the Olympics here in Swansea”.

The London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) will provide each overseas visiting team with an award of up to £25,000 to use at facilities including the National Pool at Swansea, and each facility will receive a certificate for display.
