Local AM calls for First Great Western rail services to get back on Track

Andrew Davies AM for Swansea West has called on First Great Western to urgently improve its services between Swansea and London Paddington.

Andrew Davies AM for Swansea West said:

“I am disappointed at the systematic failures of First Great Western at delivering a sub-standard service to the people of Swansea.”

“I have been highlighting their poor performance for sometime and I will now be seeking an urgent meeting with Andrew Haines, the Chief Operating Officer, to see what his detailed plans for improvement are”.

This follows an announcement from the Secretary of State for Transport Ruth Kelly today that the performance of First Great Western has persistently fallen short of its customers' expectations and has been unacceptable to both passengers and Government and that First Great Western has breached its franchise agreement by exceeding the limits on cancellations, and also by misreporting those cancellations.

“It is unacceptable that passengers from across South Wales face high fares accompanied by a second class service.

“I welcome the additional extra capacity and new improved carriages; however this does not excuse the increased cancellation of trains and passengers who feel let down by First Great Western”.
