Andrew Davies welcomes Swansea University Independence
In June 2007 a Supplemental Charter was granted, which will establish Swansea as an independent University and no longer a constitution of the Federal University of Wales.
The new status of Swansea University will come into effect from September 1,
2007.
The change of status is the culmination of a process that began in 2000,
when the University applied for its own taught and research degree-awarding powers, which were subsequently awarded in 2005.
Andrew Davies AM said:
‘’I am delighted that Swansea University has finally achieved independence
and is continuing to enjoy one of its most exciting and tranformational
periods in its eighty-seven year history. The University is developing at an
unprecedented rate with rising applications to study at Swansea, excellent
collaborative research links with industry and a clear direction for the
future.
The positive impact that the University is having on the city is undeniable it is a key driver in the knowledge economy and continues to make a hugely
important cultural contribution to the city and region.
To coincide with the institutions new found independence the University will also be introducing a new, enhanced corporate identity to mark the official
change of status. The new identity will give a fresh, modern look to the traditional crest used by the University for many years.‘’
Andrew Davies AM continued:
‘’My constituents tell me there is a real buzz about the city thanks to ambitious developemts across Swansea from the National Pool to the SA1
development. This is reflected in the dynamic transformation that Swansea
University is currently undertaking.‘’
