Local AM launches Josef Herman Art Foundation Cymru
Andrew Davies AM for Swansea West was delighted am delighted to launch
the Josef Herman Art Foundation Cymru auction to raise money for community based projects.
Andrew Davies AM said:
“I am delighted to be able to officially launch this auction for the Josef Herman Art Foundation. Funds raised tonight will help support projects such as community based residencies, increasing international links and help fund the prize in his name for art and craft at the National Eisteddfod of Wales.”
“Particularly important is the new initiative to place artist into schools which will provide an excellent education opportunity for many children across South west Wales.”
Josef Herman a Polish Jewish refugee who arrived in 1944 was based in Ystradgynlais which was his home and inspiration for much of his distinctive iconic images of Valley communities and industrial life in Wales. ,
The foundation in his name was set up in 2001 and has successfully shown and curated exhibitions of Herman’s work.

“I am particularly pleased as a passionate art enthusiast and admirer of Hermans work to be able to launch and take part in this auction here tonight see work by Mike Jones, Mary Lloyd Jones, Keith Baylis, Megan Jones, Vallerie Ganz, and of course, Josef Herman himself.”
“I’m also particularly looking forward to the great live folk band Bare Bones who will also be performing on the night and will add to what promises to be an exciting and vibrant evening”.
