Is Swimming Free at the 'LC'?
Andrew Davies AM for Swansea West, Val Lloyd AM for Swansea East and Edwina Hart AM for the Gower have again asked Chris Holley to confirm that the free swimming initiative will be exempt from the new Leisure Centre and that over 60’s and children will have to pay to use the facility.
The AMs said:
“For all of Councillor Holley’s outrage about this issue he has still not answered a very simple question; will the Leisure Centre honour the free swimming initiative launched in 2004 by the Welsh Assembly Government?”
This follows a letter from the Council sent to Val Lloyd arguing that the Leisure Centre would not be eligible for the free Swimming Imitative as it would primarily be a fun filled water attraction and not suited for the Free Swimming Imitative.
It went onto say that should Free Swimming be included at the LC then it is probable that it will become extremely costly to the Council and it may not fulfil the criteria of…. swimming and physical activity”.
Val Lloyd, Andrew Davies and Edwina Hart Continued:
After all the bluster and mock outrage by Councillor Holley he has not answered a simple question. If the Free swimming initiative is not honoured then the tax payers of Swansea have a right to an explanation as to why they are not honouring this fantastic Assembly pledge.
We urge the Council again to withdraw their mean spirited approach and honour the Welsh Assembly Government pledge for free swimming for the over +60 and children during school holidays.
