Boost for Local Mental Health Services
EXTRA money has been earmarked for helping people living with mental health conditions in the community by the Labour led Assembly Government Andrew Davies AM has said.
Welsh Labour Health Minister Edwina Hart has announced that an additional £100,000 is going to be made available to improve support for GPs providing mental health care.
The funding, for the Wales Mental Health Primary Care Network, aims to share best practice on mental health care and encourage local health professionals to share ideas and develop new ways of working.
More than 95 per cent of people living with a mental health condition receive care and support from primary care teams like GP surgeries.
Andrew Davies AM said:
''Improving the care and support for people living with mental health conditions is one of Welsh Labour's key priorities.
"This extra funding for local mental health services will help to spread good practice and allow health workers to improve care for patients in Swansea.
Primary care teams encourage people to be involved in the development of the support they receive - this is important in giving people the confidence and help they need to cope with their condition.
This Labour-led Assembly Government is also committed to seeking further powers in mental health - in terms of assessment and treatment as well as providing early intervention to avoid people's mental health deteriorating.''
