Andrew Davies AM has welcomed news that the Labour-led Assembly Government has given the go ahead for the next phase of Wales’ first Children’s Hospital.

Welsh Labour Health Minister Edwina Hart has announced a further £40 million for the next stage of the hospital’s development along with an extra £1.2 million to meet the on going costs of the first stage.

The extra money will go towards designing treatment centres around the needs of children. The next phase will include:
· 30 surgical beds, 14 ambulatory/overnight beds and 8 renal/cardiac beds,
· a paediatric intensive care unit with high dependency unit (7 beds and 4 beds respectively),
· 4 paediatric theatres,
· a radiology department,
· a dedicated paediatric dental unit,

Andrew Davies AM said:

‘’Thanks to Welsh Labour – Wales can boast its very own Children’s Hospital. I am delighted that this extra money will allow the youngest patients from Swansea to get world class care and treatment at the centre.

‘’Many local children will be able to benefit from the state-of-the-art services that the new centre will offer.

‘’The extra money will allow for the next stage of the development to go ahead without delay. I am delighted with the Assembly Government’s commitment to the best health service for all the children of Wales.’’
